Central segment of the German Mining Museum, Bochum. Architect: Fritz Schupp. In the foreground there is the kinetic sculpture "Base Metals" by Prof. Ovis Wende, 1990. The winding tower was originally built for the Germania mine in Dortmund but was transferred to the museum in 1973. It has a height of 71.4 m and a mass of about 650 tons. There is a sign for the special exhibition on the Courrières mine disaster in 1906.
